2011 IDP Stockwatch: Week 7

Written By: Bill Edwards

Hello and welcome to this season-long series for IDPGuru.com. In this article, I will discuss a few players whose fantasy value has either gone up or down depending on their performance, role changes, injury concerns, etc. from the previous week. I will try to get this article out every Tuesday for your reading pleasure.

Stock Up

RILB – Desmond Bishop – (GB) – Bishop has been dominate to this point in the season. He has 57 tackles and 3 sacks through six games. Good for just over 8 tackles per game and 0.5 sacks per game. He should remain a top performer week in and week out and can be trusted as a LB1 moving forward.

LILB – Navorro Bowman – (SF) – OK, I have been waiting on him to slow down. I’ve been waiting for the best linebacker in the league to show up and get his tackles back. Bowman seems to have taken over in San Fran. He is leading the team in tackles and was a huge part of the 49ers beating the Lions this past Sunday. LB2

RCB – Charles Tillman – (CHI) – Tillman has 42 tackles through 6 games and 2 forced fumbles. Tillman has been a huge help in the run defense and will usually draw the offense’s best wide receiver. Tillman is second on the team in total tackles and second in passes defended. DB2

SS – Kurt Coleman – (PHI) – Coleman paced the Eagles defense last week in his first start since his week 2 benching. Coleman had 7 tackles and 3 INTs. Coleman may just be what the Eagles have lacked thus far this season. Look for Coleman to be a DB3 going forward. He should see plenty of tackle chances leaking through to the second level.

SS – Tanard Jackson – (TB) – Jackson played his first game action in 56 weeks. He was suspended by the league after week 2 of the 2010 season. Jackson put up a decent line for the amount of time away he has had. 5 tackles and an INT against a good QB like Brees is a good sign for a struggling Bucs defense that ranks 25th overall. DB4 with DB3 upside.

Stock Down

LCB – Justin King – (STL) – King, after starting out really well, has had 6 tackles the last 2 games. He is tied for second on the team in tackles and has 1 sack and 1 INT to his credit. Look for King to rebound this week against Dallas. DB3

LDE – Adam – Carriker – (WAS) – Has an amazing 6 tackles in 5 games. He has recorded 3 sacks so far to his credit, but if you are in a tackle heavy league, he should be on your waiver wire. Carriker has never been a heavy tackle guy and has benefited from the play of Kerrigan and Orakpo, so he may see an increase in sacks this season. DL4

MLB – Aaron Curry – (OAK) – Curry, a former #4 overall pick back in 2009, has never even come close to reaching that potential. Maybe Oakland can get something out of him that Seattle couldn’t but only time will tell. Keep him on your bench for a few weeks and see if he improves. LB4

MLB – Mason Foster – (TB) – Foster started the season on fire with 17 tackles in weeks 1 and 2. But his production has quickly dropped off, compiling only 15 tackles in 4 games. He still has plenty of upside, especially in keeper and dynasty leagues, however. Look for his numbers to bounce back in the next few weeks. Foster is a LB3 moving forward.

NT – B.J. Raji – (GB) – After a Super Bowl season in 2010, Raji has slumped some in the sack department. He is averaging just as many tackles this season as last but has dropped off big time in sacks with just 1 this season. Raji has potential to improve on his sack numbers from a year ago with Green Bay getting ahead by a few touchdowns in early in games. DL4
