IDPs to Avoid in 2024 Redraft Leagues

Listed below are some IDPs I recommend avoiding in drafts as of August 13th. As you will see, I’ve ranked the majority of these players a decent chunk lower than the “expert consensus rankings” that are logged into the FantasyPros platform or often significantly lower than their current Average Draft Position (ADP).

These are just a few of the many player excerpts and rankings taken out of my 2024 IDP Fantasy Football Draft Guide which is available for purchase here.

These target recommendations are based on the balanced IDP scoring system listed below:

Scoring System:
Solo Tackle = 1.5 points
Assist = 0.75 points
Sack = 4 points
Interception = 5 points
Forced Fumble = 4 points
Fumble Recovery = 4 points
Pass Deflection = 1.5 points
Tackle for Loss = 2 points
Defensive TD = 6 points

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

Trey Hendrickson DE – CIN (12), -8 vs. ECR
Hendrickson is coming off a career season in which he racked up an impressive 17 sacks, making it the third time he’s notched double-digit sacks in his 7-year career. There are two main reasons why I’m fading him in 2024 though – first, he converted pressures to sacks at an absurd 35% rate which is very unlikely to hold true this year. And second, he’s annually light in tackle production, never compiling more than 28 solos in a season which mitigates his value in balanced and tackle-heavy scoring formats. I’d recommend letting someone else draft Hendrickson as a top 15 DL (his current ECR).

LINEBACKERS

Quincy Williams LB – NYJ (12), -5 vs. ECR
During the first half of last season, Williams was one of fantasy’s premiere linebackers. However, he lost steam during the 2nd half, functioning more as a LB20-LB25 during that time. Given his past production history and the fact that he has LB1 CJ Mosley to compete with for tackles, his second half stats are likely more indicative of his true value moving forward versus the top 10 pace he started this season with.

Frankie Luvu LB – WAS (14), -13 vs. ECR
Luvu is one of the more fun defenders to watch on a weekly basis and his emergence in Carolina landed him a nice payday in Washington (3 years, $36 million). However, it sounds like the Commanders plan to play him more in an edge role. There’s also a hance that he’s not an every-down linebacker in 2024 based on how Dan Quinn likes to roll with a lot of one-LB sets (which will feature Bobby Wagner). Luvu is probably an IDP that won’t find himself on any of my rosters to begin the season.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Jalen Pitre S – HOU (14), -10 vs. ECR
Pitre was one of my top DB sleepers in 2022 and was one of the best values that year finishing as the top fantasy DB1, and by a wide margin. A new defense and scheme dramatically hurt his production last year as he spent more time away from the line of scrimmage. That scheme is carrying over to 2024, so managers should be expecting production closer to Pitre’s 2023 season versus his 2022 rookie campaign. Considering he finished outside the top 50 DBs last year, his current ECR of DB21 is a bit too rich for my blood.
