2024 Defensive Coordinators and Schemes
This article will be updated throughout the off-season and contains valuable information pertaining to NFL defensive schemes and coaching changes for the 2024 Season.
When selecting an IDP, it is important to not only know what position they play, but the defensive scheme they play in as well. For example, linebackers that play on defenses that incorporate a lot of Cover 2 looks typically generate above average tackle numbers relative to their position.
As mentioned in my 2024 Every Down Linebackers post, Base defenses are only run about 25% of the time on average in the NFL these days, so I wouldn’t put too much stock into that column below. The primary package and notes columns are the areas deserving the most attention.
Lastly, a shout out to Tom Kislingbury and his 2023 Defensive Schemes handbook as it was very useful in providing specifics into each team’s personnel groupings and package usage.
Listed below are specific details of each team’s defensive scheme and defensive coordinator tendencies.
NOTE: Anything in GREEN is an expected change from the 2023 season.
